The Zoo Story Design

I created these set and costume designs as an assignment for my Approaching Design class. The assignment was to read and create a hypothetical set design as well as costume designs for the play The Zoo Story.

I began this assignment by creating a sketch in my sketchbook with graphite. Then, I made the final design for the set on watercolor paper using acrylic paint. The costume designs I created with acrylic on sketchbook paper. I enjoyed this assignment because it was one of my first experiences with creating my own imagined set design. It also allowed me to read a play and create a set according to my own interpretations.
